But what truly compelled Keith to run for California Insurance Commissioner was witnessing the devastation of recent wildfires and the heartbreak of families struggling not only with loss — of homes, pets, and communities — but also with delayed or denied insurance claims at their greatest time of need.

California is facing an insurance crisis. Homeowners and drivers are paying dramatically higher rates while coverage options shrink:

These rising premiums, limited options, and claim processing delays have become the new norm — and it’s UNACCEPTABLE!

Homeowners insurance premiums in many parts of the state have risen double digits and in some high-risk areas increased 33% or more above inflation, pricing many out of coverage altogether.

Auto and property insurance rates have surged statewide, with some analyses showing home and auto insurance costs increasing significantly over the past few years.

As wildfire risk has grown, many insurers have pulled back or stopped writing new policies in high-risk areas, forcing more Californians into the last-resort FAIR Plan, which has limited coverage and high costs.
